The installation of the agent locks up the computer, forcing me to reboot. According to the script, this happened during installation of the 'crowdsecurity/linux' collection. This is the second time I have tried to install the agent on this server and the same thing happens. Any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Do you have any sort of blocking towards github or AWS as that command sends a request to download files?

I don't, but I will check to make sure some other tool isn't kicking in and blocking it

Hmmm it’s difficult to. The machine hangs and there’s no log. It’s just stuck at the crowdsec/linux

I tried 7 times lately. 5 times it just hangs and I killed the VM and created a new one. Once it worked straight away. Once it worked after 10min urea wait

It actually looks like a communication issue no ? I’m unable to test this further not sure how to

does the machine has very bad internet collection ?

the "only" things I would see is that the "linux" collection downloads geoip location database from S3 buckets and it's about 50ish Mb ?

Don’t think so. But as it is intermittent it does sound like this. Which log could I provide to help ? I can tri create new VM and have the issue again

50mb sounds very small though

I managed to reproduce he bug, seems to be related to the internet connection

that hanges after the download starts
If by any chance you're using a debian distribution, you can test one of those https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=crowdsec&searchon=names&suite=all§ion=all because it use a modified linux collection without those downloads

Actually it seems that somehow for me the download is veryyyyyy slow at times

This downloads at 18kb/s

Same download locally is super fast (my VM is with Oracle)

I'm on Ubuntu though so not sure I can use these ?

In case it can help, I'm located in Asia. What i've noticed is that, evening local time, it is extremely slow to do the above wget (ETA is usually around 2/3hrs). If I do it in the morning it seems blazing fast

It might be my VPS provider (ill do more tests to confirm), or the target directly but I doubt it as it seems i'm the only one having the problem 🙂
