Honestly, I can't remember just how I registered my machine with the CS console, but it received some 32-letter string. Since that instance can be renamed in the console, I did just that. Awesome.
However, it does get a bit tedious within the local Metabase dashboard, which, of course, doesn't know I've renamed it in the CS console.
Is there a way to fix that locally, so I end up with a somewhat more legible ID for my instance?

If you run are running bare metal you can run cscli machines add myNewMachineName -a

if you runnign within docker use the CUSTOM_HOSTNAME environment variable … note you need to restart the container to make the changes take effect

OK, so yes, it's bare metal. I just ran cscli machines add nginx-npm -a and that did reflect in the CS console—but now it reports two agents, the new one sporting an unknown CS version. 🤔

  • II

    if you restart the agent?

  • RA

yes, I did a systemctl restart crowdsec, that should do it, right?

Gah, and there's also an extra unknown firewallbouncer that's been inactive for 5 days. No idea what I did there. 🙈

Nope we have a pending fix

Awesome. As for my server, I just rebooted it and now it does show the version # at least, so there's that. Should I just run cscli machines delete -m now?

  • II

    To the old one yes

Cheers thank you for the feedback!

Maybe one last thing: I'm not sure if CS auto-updates itself or not, especially since I'd like to get that double bouncer fix… do I need to apt upgrade or does the connected console take care of it?

  • II

No you still need to update, you can use a package like unattended updates but it depends if you rather be in control
